Managing permissions when using parallel task assignment
As from now in collaborative task management we will consider :
- Regular tasks: implying one assignee and one task creator,
- Parallel tasks: 2 or more members assigned in parallel on the same task (please read our blog entry on parallel task assignment).
How do application settings in GroupCamp work?
Rights and permissions are desgined to be simple to use with three levels of permissions:
Administrators or Managers: only users who have been assigned the role of Administrator or Manager hold that permission
Users of the primary company: all users of the primary company (the company that owns the GroupCamp account) will hold that permission,
All members: GroupCamp Poject allows you to invite clients and partners in a project, which means they would also be included in that level of permission. (Invited Guests are from companies which are different from the primary company that owns the account).
Example in task management:
Note : The Manager role can only be assigned as from the BEST plan of GroupCamp Project. The Administrator role however exists in all plans.
Managing permissions: the right to complete tasks
Tasks assigned to a single member
With the setting shown above, only Administrators and Managers present in a project can create, edit and delete tasks. For completion of tasks, the assignee may also complete his or her tasks if the corresponding checkbox shown above is checked.
Rights on Parallel task management
The same principle applies to parallel task assignment. In that particular case this is helpful since it avoids having team members completing the tasks of fellow colleagues.
Tasks display depending on defined settings
When a member is not authorized to complete tasks (and reopen completed tasks), the completion check boxes are greyed and disabled with a tooltip message indicating that the current user may not terminate such tasks.
Notifications upon completion of regular and parallel tasks
If you do not want to receive notifications when a task is completed, simply uncheck the Tasks application settings.
When completing a task, you may choose to notify automatically specific members of the project or propose a pop-up window within which the user will choose which member to notify eash time a task is completed.
For parallel tasks, you can send a notification on each completed parallel task or when all parallel tasks are completed. You can also decide who should be receiving notifications.
Rights management - notification window
If you choose the “Allow the user to choose from a pop-up window” option, the screen shown below will pop up when a task is completed.
In that particular case the user chooses upon every completion which fellow member to notify.
Note : this message is not listed in the comments linked to the task.
We hope you enjoy those new settings. A lot more to come.
